Matt Sandlin #17 Football News Position Review: QB Matt Sandlin at Tuscaloosa County HS High School in Alabama has a great frame, excellent accuracy, poise in the pocket, and the arm strength to make all the necessary throws. Sandlin is great talent with tremendous upside. Sandlin brings to the table a lot of zip on the ball, excellent vision, pocket awareness, and a Tebow fullback style of running. He throws well on the run or in the pocket. Has great mechanics and is very fundamentally sound. Has good footwork and a nice quick release. Shows good ability to escape the pocket and throw on the run. Has solid arm strength and knows when to gun it and when to add some touch. Made the switch to the 6A classification and is quickly beginning to dominate at the higher competition

2008 Season: Sandlin completed 174 of 260 pass attempts for 3,309 yards scoring 29 touchdowns with five interceptions. He rushed for 5 touchdowns while averaging 6.59 yd/carry.

(2008) He led the # 1 Passing Offense in the State of Alabama as a junior.

(2008)He was a finalist for the Friday Night Blitz Player of Alabama, Scout.com Star of Alabama 6 times, Athlete’s Foot Athlete of the Week, named West Alabama (Tuscaloosa News) All-Star and Alabama Sports Writer Association (ASWA) 1st Team All-State Quarterback HM during his junior (2008) season. Ranked #7 in passing yards and Top 20 in Total Offense as a junior by Maxpreps.com. He was awarded teams offensive MVP player of the year.

As a sophomore in 2007, Sandlin completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 533 yards and seven touchdowns backing up University of Alabama commit Brad Smelley. He also ran the ball for a 5.4 average per run.
